Utilizing technology to improve the wellbeing of the elderly:
According to the World Health Organization (1), the number of people over 60 in almost every country is growing faster than any other age group. Life expectancy has risen; these increases in longevity and the quality of life of older adults constitute a challenge to mental health professionals working to help the growing older population not only to live longer and healthier but also better and happier. How to age successfully and embrace well-being is the focus of much concern.
What I want to focus on for the elderly wellbeing is their physical, psychological, and mental health, and especially how technology can play a role in it. Does advance in technology create a burden for elders? How to make it more inclusive and accessible to elders? How can they experience convenience and entertainment in their daily life like we do from technology? Already was thinking about some possible ideas: 1) a voice command to improve their conveniences and communicate with families easier, 2) an entertaining or educational game for them to enjoy, or 3) utilizing augmented reality for better healthcare experiences, 4) a "community" platform that allows them to socialize, make friends, and perhaps exercise together......
Main question or inquiry:
How might we use technology to help elders with their wellbeing?
Daily Practice
It's more like a daily researching & brainstorming - breaking down the sub-topics and creating a "system map" for each. The first 4 days are mostly research insights but the last 2 days are my brainstorming insights.
Day 1: Mental Wellbeing
Day 2: Physical Wellbeing
Day 3: Psychological Wellbeing
Day 4: Measurement of Wellbeing
Day 5: How might elders feel?
Day 6: What are their needs?
Next Question:
How can technology help? In what ways or formats?
